Boost Your Immune System This Fall

Boost Immune System
The immune system can handle a lot, but it is our job to support it the best that we can. Here are some of my top tips for staying healthy this season.

It’s that time of year again, and with it can be sniffles, coughing, phlegm and more. With fall in full swing, it’s time to start practicing flu and cold season prevention and I have some important tips for you. Even if you eat healthy, exercise, drink lots of water, and get plenty of rest each night, you could still occasionally fall sick. The immune system can handle a lot, but it is our job to support it the best that we can.

An effective tip you may not know about keeping well this winter is regular far infrared sauna therapy.

Sweating is the body’s safest way to heal and stay healthy. Heating the body with a far infrared sauna kills microbes and latent viruses. Plus, it improves circulation, detoxification, and mirrors the benefits of a passive cardio workout by increasing your blood flow just as if you were exercising. The Sunlighten sauna at our clinic has been shown to generate sweat with a toxin ratio of nearly 20% (as compared to a 3% toxin ratio for other saunas). It’s a great way to reap the benefits of a workout on days you don’t make it to the gym all while opening up your blood vessels allowing easier transport of immune cells to help you fight cold or flu quicker.  For the entire month of October, we are offering 20% off all sauna packages of 4 sessions or more. If you have never experienced the whole body benefits of a near, mid, and far infrared sauna, now is the time to give it a try! Additionally in October, we are offering 15% off Dr. Passero’s favorite daily immune support supplement to support the body’s defenses against seasonal immune challenges. Here are my other top tips. You may already know them, but you may not put them into practice regularly enough to keep you well through the winter.

Wash your hands……a lot!

The obvious times of hand washing are before every meal and after using the restroom, but this time of year calls for upping the ante! Public places like school, daycare, the workplace, or just out and about running errands exposes us to many germs. Good old fashioned soap and water and an avoidance of touching your face is one of my top recommendations for keeping healthy during cold and flu season.

Sanitize as much as possible.

Clean and sanitize more during cold and flu season. Phones, laptops, keyboards, door knobs and anything with a handle should be cleaned once or twice a week.

Eat foods containing phytochemicals.

Phytochemicals are naturally-occurring, beneficial chemicals found in plant-based foods including fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. Research indicates that phytochemicals have a positive impact on health, boosting the immune system, fighting free radicals, and potentially fighting certain types of cancer.

Use herbal remedies and teas.

Echinacea, goldenseal, ginger, vitamin C, and lemon are all great ways to support your body in flu and cold prevention. Again, a healthy lifestyle will go a long way in impeding a virus. Keep a balanced diet, drink lots of water, and get plenty of rest.

These are my top tips for staying healthy this season.
